Do I have to have a Board Meeting?

Having regular board meetings is important to the success of an organization. They are used in businesses large and small, nonprofit groups, and can be useful in many other projects with others.

A Board Meeting should include all the key players of an organization. You can include other experts that may have beneficial input in the meeting, and in reaching goals of the organization.

Meetings should be held at least annually, but may be more or less frequently based on needs. If there is an event coming up or an unexpected change that needs a meeting of the minds, a meeting can be called.

A meeting should have an agenda, or general idea of items to review, to guide it. Official notes should be kept, as meeting minutes, and any special decisions that are decided in the meeting are memorialized in the meeting minutes. Decisions are recorded as voted and agreed to among a majority of the board of directors. A financial review and budget planning are also done at Board Meetings.

Many businesses follow Roberts Rules of Order to run their meetings.
