Salaried or “Exempt” employees in CA must have a minimum salary of $1,240 per week, or $64,480 per year.
All employers are required to offer paid sick leave, this can either be a front loaded deduction of 24 hours per year or earned and accrued based on the hours worked by the employee. Using the accrual method, this leave is earned at a rate of .033 hours of sick pay accrued per 1 hour worked.
You earn 1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked. In the case of unused leave, you may accrue up to a maximum of 48 hours or 6 days per year.
Employers with 5 or more employees must add a bereavement leave policy to their p[aid sick leave policy.
Employers with 26 or more employees must provide 2022 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave to covered employees of up to 80 hours for COVID-19 related paid leave, with up to 40 of those hours for isolation & quarantine, receiving vaccines, and caring for a child whose school or place of care is closed and up to an additional 40 of those hours available only when an employee, or family member for whom the employee provides care, tests positive for COVID-19.
